Flamingo Razor Review
Ladies listen up! The warmers month are upon us which only mean one thing, swimsuit season. I am not here to tell you how to get your perfect beach body or how to get shredded for summer. We have bigger issues to tackle. We are going to be talking about SHAVING *entire crowd sighs*. Warm weather equal tank tops, dresses, skirts and swimsuits, meaning that we can no longer hide the fact we haven't shaved our legs in a month with winter clothing. Let's be honest with ourselves here, no one likes shaving and it is always a chore. The worst part of shaving is finding the perfect shaving products and razor that works for you. Is there even such thing as a perfect razor? To be honest, I don't think so. At the end of the day your razor is only going so far. My Ideal razor is one that get a close shave, does not cause any razor burn/ irritation, doesn't cut me, blades that stay sharp and doesn't have a moisture bar thats gets all melted and gross. There is absolutely nothing worse than having a razor cut you every 2 seconds in the shower then, only being able to use it a couple times because the blades dull and your body is infested with razor burn. Shaving is a never ending battle of trial and error.
After spending years trying to perfect my formula of the ideal razor combined with shaving products to get the best end result, I was about to throw in the towel. I was full ready to except my fate of brutal cuts from razors and the worst razor burn and irritation. That was until one of my lovely friends told be about a new razor she recently purchased from Target. She claimed this high quality razor is sharp, last way longer than your typical razor, gets a close shave without the irritation. That razor is the Flamingo Razor.
Any time a shaving product is recommended and claims do the things I want my razor to do, I hop right on it. After doing some research, I headed
on over to my local target and picked up this razor to try it out for myself.
Flamingo - about the brand
Flamingo is apart of the same company that produces Harry's razors for men. Flamingo was developed by women to create a personal care products that supports the needs of women's shaving rituals. They didn't just go head and throw shaving products on the market, they took years of research and time to interview women on their experiences with personal care to create ideal shaving products. The Flamingo product line is also developed in the same factories as Harry's that specialize in the production of razors. Not only does this brand focus on and listen to the personal needs of women, they also give back to the community. They support exhale to inhale and the period menstrual movement. They set aside 1% of their profits to donate to these charities to help women build healthy, positive relationships with themselves.
Review
I purchased my Flamingo razor in the mint and gold color from target for $9.99 (includes razor, blade refill and shower holder) . From first impressions this razor doesn't look that special. Yes, it has a sleek, aesthetically pleasing design but the overall razor its self looks similiar to an off brand 5 blade (which is what I have been using). The handle has rubber gripping for a more secure hold and is weighted to be more balanced in your hand and has a more high end feel. To truly put this razor to the test, I shaved my whole entire body with it. I was extremely surprised with how well the razor moved on top of the skin and with the curves of my body. The head of the razor is flexible and adjusts to fit every area you are shaving. This feature most definitely prevented getting cut from the razor in those typical areas like behind your knee and around your ankles. I also found with this razor I can pass over the area I am shaving multiple times, without irritation. This razor gave me a close shave without missing any spots and also made shaving different areas of my body extremely easy. The moisture bar on this razor does not wear down and melt on to the blades during or after use. It is also super easy to care for this razor and store it. With your purchase you get a suction cup shower holder for storing your razor and keeping it dry. My first shaving experience with this razor was extremely pleasant and I got a nice quality shave with zero irritation.
The first test was the initial shave, but to conclude if this razor is close to perfect you have to do a follow up shave. The biggest problem I run into with disposable razors is if I am going to be shaving my bikini line, after one use I need a fresh razor or else my skin gets highly irritated and bumps are everywhere. A huge pain and a huge waste. For the follow up shave, I shave my entire body like the first time. The blades were still sharp and I got the same glide over my skin like the first time. For more sensitive areas like my bikini line, I was able to pass over the area multiple times and got zero irritation. Even a day or two after shaving there were no signs of bumps or razor burn. I have been using the same razor head for about a month now and it is still going strong, no signs of dull blades or rusting. Typically my disposable razor would of worn down, rusted and hit the trash can.
I can now confidently shave my body and know now that my skin will not hate me. I am truly impressed with the quality of this razor, I didn't think it was possible to like a razor this much. Do I still hate shaving absolutely, but this razor has improved the quality of my care routine by 100%.
Where can you buy Flamingo?
Flamingo can be purchased on the Flamingo website and at Target. You will be able to find their full range of products at those locations.
What products will I be trying next?
I am definitely interested in trying their body wax strips. Even though I truly love the razor, in the summer time its not realistic to be shaving your bikini line every day or two. I have never tested out wax strips before so I am curious to see what the results are and how long regrowth takes.
I also suffer from ingrown hairs, which are the absolute worse. I always keep up with exfoliating and my after shave care but it is inevitable. Flamingo sells an ingrown spot treatment that prevents ingrown's from happening. It caught my eye and I think it is worth giving it a try.
Shaving products I use with the Flamingo Razor
- My all time favorite body scrub. It comes in a variety of scents and is super affordable. I use this scrub before shaving.
- I always using a shaving cream, never ever go in dry. This one is super affordable and comes in a few different formulations. I typically purchase the hydrating and sensitive skin formula. Lathers and foams nicely and helps with the shaving process.
- An absolute must, espescially for the bikini line. I put some of this on a cotton round and wipe it onto any areas I'm prone to ingrown's and razor burn. Using the right razor aids in the fight against razor burn but this help a ton too. I find if you are prone to getting that raw feeling on your skin after shaving this takes that away and help keep the skin smooth and soft.
- Lotion is an absolute must as well for me. I am a crazy person when it comes to moisturizing. I will literally lotion my whole body head to toe (no I am not joking). I lotion my body every time after showering, but especially after shaving. this will preserve the smooth, fresh shaved feeling and also help soothe more sensitive areas ( in my personal experience).
